Get Back to that Routine

It happened again. You’ve fallen out of exercise habits and are having trouble jumping back into them. The good news is you would like to get back into them! Whatever the case may be, its never too late to start exercising, and the sooner you get started, the better you will feel!

Getting back into running and weight-training shape. A safe way to get back into running shape or any other cardio training is by doing 20-30 minutes of aerobic activity at a low intensity 2-3 days a week, then overtime slowly increase the intensity by about 5 percent research has shown. Similarly with the weight-room, start from scratch. Its okay that it may be less than what you have lifted in the past, start small and do 12 reps at a slight resistance. Start out by doing one exercise for each major muscle group twice per week. Then gradually over the weeks continue to do small increases in weight. The biggest trap people fall into is trying to do too much, too soon. While the renewed excitement is wonderful, it can burn you out or lead to injury. So start small!

Another common pitfall, besides trying to do too much too soon, is people get discouraged when life gets in the way of planning exercise or not seeing immediate results. How to handle that? Plan ahead and expect setbacks. As long as you establish a regular routine and continue to resume it, it will be okay.

Lack of motivation? That is where a personal training comes in to help you establish a regular routine and push you in a healthy way you may not have thought was possible.

So when you don’t feel like working out, remember how much better you’ll feel afterward! Not to be redundant, but exercise is a great stress reliever and energizer, I can attest to that and my clients can attest to that.
