Easy Ways to Get Out of Your Fitness Rut
No doubt we have all fallen off the health and fitness bandwagon before. Whether you're in quaratine, you’ve just come back from a vacation, it’s a busy period in your life or you’ve simply lost motivation, it can happen to anyone!
The trouble with being stuck in a "fitness rut" is that it can be really hard to get out of it. Here are some of my top tips on how to get out of your fitness rut!
Write down your goals. If you have fallen out of your exercise lifestyle and are finding it hard to get started again, write down some weekly goals, then breaking them down into daily goals. This can literally be as simple as exercising 3 times that week and choosing exactly which day and time you will be exercising. To make yourself even more accountable, it can be handy to set alarms on your phone to remind you! Having some goals can make it easier for you to commit, rather than having a vague mindset of “possibly this day or possibly that day… or maybe next week”.
Start with things that you enjoy. Just move your body! If you haven’t exercised in a while, jumping straight into an intense session that you know will leave you feeling sore and overwhelmed will not be the best option. Instead, start slow and start with things you enjoy. Get motivated by doing what you love, what makes you feel good and eventually you can get back into a solid routine.
Plan your weekly meals. If healthy eating is where you have slipped up lately, the easiest way to get back into this can be planning out your weekly meals. Most of us tend to make bad food choices when we are super hungry or haven’t prepared any food. Try writing down a meal plan and have easy snack options on hand. Once again, start small by planning just a few days at a time so that you don’t overwhelm yourself. And you can even plan in the morning what you may eat during the day.
Buy yourself some new workout gear. When you are in a rut, sometimes you just need something to excite you a bit and to spark motivation. A great way to look forward to getting back into the gym is buying some new clothes or workout accessories to add to your gym essentials! After all, who wants to spend money on a new top just to have it sit in their closet. If you can’t afford a whole new outfit, even something as simple as a new sweat towel, a water bottle or a tank can still motivate you!
The main thing is to just get our bodies moving and feeling good! I hope these tips brought you some motivation today, now lets get stronger together!
