Cold Remedies

It's pretty obvious there are no cold and flu cures, however, there are plenty of cold and flu remedies that can help fight that nagging cough, running nose or achy muscles.

Zinc! Some studies show it helps fight viruses, like the cold. While zinc doesn’t appear to prevent colds, it may help shorten their length and lessen the severity if you take it within 24 hours of the first symptoms. You should continue to take zinc for a few days, or if you are like me, take it all throughout the winter.

Vitamin C! Some research suggests that people on daily vitamin C dose each day were significantly less likely to get a cold. So eat your fruits and veggies and stock up on Vitamin C chewables or tablets. Too much vitamin C doesn’t hurt, you just pee out any extra. LOL.

Steam or humidifier! Breathing in steam can break up congestion in your nose. You can get a heavy dose from a room humidifier or by filling a bowl with hot water and lean over it with a towel over your head, or simply sit in the bathroom or shower with the door shut and a hot shower running. All of this can provide relief in your nose, nasal passages, throat and muscles.

Hot Tea! Breathing in the steam relieves congestion, while swallowing the fluid soothes your throat and keeps you hydrated. Certain teas have the added bonus of being loaded with antioxidants, which may stave off colds as well.

Honey! This beauty has all sorts of cold fighting antioxidants, as well as, soothes a sore throat. Not to mention it makes the tea tastes even better!

Chicken Soup! Chicken soup may help cold symptoms in more than one way. Inhaling the steam can ease a stuffy nose. Sipping spoonful’s of it can help replace the fluids you lose. The warm, salty broth can alleviate sore throats.

WATER! WATER! WATER! The more fluids the better. And REST! REST! REST! These are of the most important!

Now, may you make it through the winter without any sick blues.

Xoxo, MK
